Sunsets are so beautiful that they almost seem as if we were looking through the gates of Heaven.

"The sun truly "comes up like thunder," and it sets just as fast. Each sunrise and sunset lasts only a few seconds. But in that time you see at least eight different bands of color come and go, from a brilliant red to the brightest and deepest blue. And you see sixteen sunrises and sixteen sunsets every day you're in space. No sunrise or sunset is ever the same."
~ Joseph Allen
American astronaut

These sunrise pictures were taken in Fairfield Township, Ohio,  where I live.
  I took them while walking with Jessie....19 October 2005

The rising sun complies with our weak sight,
  First gilds the clouds, then shows his globe of light
    At such a distance from our eyes, as though
      He knew what harm his hasty beams would do.

"Ghostly" sunrise from my house-21 September 2005

Today’s Goodnight

Shades of pink and cobalt blue
showed at sunset tonight;
Above the blue was soft melon -
another awesome delight.

Some sunsets bleed with vibrant colour
but these were soft and subdued;
Angels kissing us all goodnight -
bidding today adieu.

Two little verses from a hospital bed -
what more was there to say?
Shades of pink from God’s own brush -
blessing me in His own special way.

Sunset Symphony

It comes...
every evening
without fanfare or drums
it comes...

it comes softly as a lullaby
beginning with a golden glow
encircling a cloud...

and then the glow begins to grow...
pinks and violets fill the sky
a ball of orange delights the eye
the cymbals crash, the trumpets blare
a symphony has filled the air,
a silent symphony!
Applause! Applause!
a spectacular show!

then the ball of orange, ablaze, aglow,
sinks slowly out of sight...

God has tucked away a day
and ushered in the night!

And God made two great lights;
the greater light to rule the day,
and the lesser light to rule the night...
Genesis 1:16

SSoftly the evening came. The sun from the western horizon
Like a magician extended his golden wand o'er the landscape;
Trinkling vapors arose; and sky and water and forest
Seemed all on fire at the touch, and melted and mingled together.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
