"Farewell, Master, yet not farewell,
Where I go, ye too shall dwell.
I am gone, before your face,
A moment's time, a little space.
When ye come where I have stepped
Ye will wonder why ye wept."
by Edwin Arnold

1995- March 27, 2009.

Goldie's life was lived in three phases. The first phase remains a mystery because no one really knows where he came from. One day, he just appeared at the country home of my friend's mother, Dorothy. He had good instincts and definitely went to the right place because Dorothy has a very generous heart and took him in to be her own. For the next several years, he was her constant companion. Her daughter, Jené, always used the word "devoted" when she talked about him. She also described fondly how he galloped through the fields on Dorothy's farm. Sadly, the day came when Dorothy's health declined to the point that Goldie could no longer stay with her. That's when he came to live with me, and he lived here for the last 4 years of his life. He was an exceptionally good boy who loved to be the first one out the door to greet visitors. I will always treasure the many sweet memories I have of his short time as one of my dogs.

Dear Lord, please open your gates and call St. Francis to come escort this beloved companion across the Rainbow Bridge.
Assign him to a place of honor, for he has been a faithful servant and has always done his best to please us.
Grant us the strength not to dwell on our loss. Help us remember the details of his life with the love he has shown us. And grant us the courage to honor him by sharing those memories with others.
Let him remember us as well and let him know that we will always love him. And when it's our time to pass over into your paradise, please allow him to accompany those who will bring us home.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of his companionship and for the time we've had together. And thank you, Lord, for granting us the strength to give him to you now.
